Roulette Numbers - Inside Bets - Layout Bets

When you bet on single numbers or a small set of single numbers in roulette, these are called "inside bets". The single roulette numbers are organized on the largest sections of the roulette table in 3 columns of 12, starting with 1-2-3, then 4-5-6 and so on. Also, the 0 and 00 are found in slightly larger boxes just above the 1-2-3 layout.

The section of the roulette table layout with the single number symbols on it is the "box", so anything wagered inside this area is called inside bets. There are several types of these, though, so let's cover them each one-by-one.

Straight Up Bets

A "straight up" bet is a bet on any single number. It's easy to make this bet. You simply place your chip directly in the middle of the number box. So if you want to bet on "14", you place your chip inside the 14 box.

Split Bets

A "split bet" is a bet on two adjacent numbers. Any two roulette numbers that adjoin one another can be bet on in a split bet. To make a split bet, simply place your chip on the dividing line between those two numbers. So if you want to make a split bet on "11" and "12", place your chip on the dividing line between the 11 and 12.

Street Bets

A "street bet" is a bet on three numbers which are arranged on a horizontal line. So if you want to make a street bet on the 22-23-24, you place your chip on the outside line of either the "22" or "24", depending on the layout of the table. Usually, you'll place it on the outside line of the 22, indicating you want to wager on all three numbers on that horizontal line.

Trio Bets

The "trio bet" comes in two options: 1-2-0 or 2-3-00. This is a 3-number bet, except one involving the zeroes. If you want to make one of these bets, place your chip either where the 0, 1 and 2 intersect, or where the 2, 3 and 00 intersect.

Corner Bets - Square Bets

A "corner bet" or "square bet" is a 4-number bets that are arranged to form a square on the roulette table. To make the corner bet, you place your bet at the center of this imaginary square, where the four box corners meet. So if you want to bet on the 32-33-35-36, you place your chip on the corner where those four number boxes meet.

Basket Bets

A "basket bet" is a 5-number bet where you wager on the ball landing on either the 0, 00, 1, 2 or 3. To make a basket bet, place your chip on the intersection between the "0" and "1". I would suggest you never make basket bets, though, because they give the worst odds of any bet on the roulette table layout.

Six Line Bets

The "six line bet" is simply a double street bet. You bet on two adjacent streets. When you make this bet, you place your chip on the outside corner of these streets, where the two streets join. Make sure you place your chip clearly on the dividing line or it will look like a street bet.

Outside Bets

Outside bets are found outside the single number boxes. Many roulette table layouts will have the term "outside bets" on it, and point out where these are. The outside bets comprise wagers on bulks of numbers, usually of a certain type. The odds of hitting these bets are greater, and the payouts on these bets are smaller.

Red or Black Bets

The "red or black bet" is a choice between the ball landing on either the "red numbers" or "black numbers". You'll find two different boxes on the roulette table: one with a red diamond and one with a black diamond. If you want to bet red, place your chip in the box with the red diamond. If you want to bet black, place your chip in the box with the black diamond.

Even or Odd Bets

The "even or odd bet" is a choice between the even numbers or odds numbers on the roulette wheel. If you want to bet even, place your chip in the box with the word "EVEN" on it. If you want to bet odd, place your chip in the box marked "ODD".

1 to 18 Bets

A "1 to 18 bet" is exactly what it sounds like. You bet that the steel ball will land on one of the first 18 numbers in the 36-number roulette sequence. There is usually a box on the roulette table marked "1-18". Simply place your chips inside this area.

19 to 36 Bets

A "19 to 36 bet" takes the other half of the numbers proposition. Once again, you'll find a box marked "19-36". Place your chips inside this box to make this bet.

Dozen Bets

The "dozen bet" allows players to bet on one of three different blocs of twelve numbers. These are the first twelve (1 through 12), the second twelve (13 through 24) or the third twelves (25 through 36). To make the 1-12 bet, place your chip in the rectangle marked "1st Dozen". If you want to make the 13-24 bet, place your chip in the "2nd Dozen" rectangle. If you want to make the 25-36 bet, place your chip in the "3rd Dozen" rectangle.

Column Bets

There is another way you can make 12-number bets. This is the "column bet". You simply bet on all the numbers in one of the three long columns of numbers. There are three options: the column starting with 1, the column starting with 2 or the column starting with 3.

The box to bet on one of these three columns is found at the bottom of each column in boxes marked "2 to 1". Each box looks the same, but they line up with the columns you'll be betting on. You can find the "2 to 1" boxes below the 34, 35 and 36 boxes (below if you're reading the numbers straight up).

One bet allows you to bet on 1-4-7-10-13-16-19-22-25-28-31-34. The second column bet allows you to bet on 2-5-8-11-14-17-20-23-26-29-32-35. The third column bet allows you to bet on 3-6-9-12-15-18-21-24-27-30-33-36.
