Roulette Rules

Roulette rules are easy to learn. There aren't many of them,
and most of the roulette rules which exist have to do with the
number combinations you can bet and how much each combination
pays. The other roulette rules have to do with when you can
wager.
Once you get the basic roulette betting etiquette down, you need to learn the different roulette bets, how to place those bets on the roulette table and the odds of winning each roulette bet. Below is a quick rundown of the various wagers you can make in roulette, along with the odds and house edges associated with each bet. Outside Bets - 50/50 Roulette BetsOutside bets are bets made outside of the boxes surrounding the numbers. These have to do with blocs of numbers, such as red/black bets, odd/even bets, the dozens bets and the column bets. Let's tackle the bets where you wager on 18 numbers at a time.
The black or red, even or odd, and high or low roulette bets pay at 1-to-1. If you wager $10, you'll get back your original bet and $10. Black/Red - You can bet the roulette ball lands on either black or red numbers. You'll have 18 chances to win on this bet, with 19 chances to lose in European roulette and 20 chances to lose in American roulette. The American roulette probability of winning is around 47.4%, while the house edge is 5.26%. Therefore, the payback percentage of a black/red bet is 94.74%. Even/Odd - You can also bet the roulette ball lands on either even numbers or odd numbers. The odds of winning on this bet is the same as the red/black bet. You're odd of winning will be 47.37%, while your payback percentage will be 94.74%. 1 to 18 - Players can bet the ball will land on one of the first 18 numbers on the wheels, 1-18. The odds of winning are the same as black/red bets and the even/odd bets. 19 to 36 - This is simply the opposite of the 1-18 bet, where you can wager the ball will land on the higher numbers 19-36. Once again, the odds of winning this bet are 47.37%. Dozens Bets - 12-Number Combination Bets1-12 - 13-24 - 25-36 - You can bet any of the three corresponding point blocks to win. This means you'll be winning slightly under one-every-three spins of the roulette wheel, at 31.58%. These bets pay off at 2-to-1, and their house edge is 5.26%. Double Street Bets - 6-Number Combination BetsThere are several six-number combination bets you can make in roulette. The six-number bet is wagered on any block of six numbers in the roulette box. These wagers pay out at 5-to-1. Basket Bet - 5-Number BetsThe basket bet is a 5-number bet, except you select three numbers plus the "0" and "00" slots. These numbers are 1, 2, 3 along with the two zero boxes. Be warned. The basket bet has a house edge of 7.89%, which is the highest house edge in roulette. Never make this bet. Corner Bet - Quad BetWhen you make the quad bet, also known as the corner bet, you place a chip where four number boxes come together at four points. By placing your chips on these four numbers' corners, you signal you are betting on all four numbers. This wager pays back 8-to-1. The probability of winning a four-number bet is 10.53%, while the house edge is 5.26%. Street Bet - Line BetThe street bet is a bet on three numbers at once. Street bets pay 11-to-1 odds. The probability of winning the street bet is 7.89%, while the house edge is 5.26%. Split Bet - 2-Number BetThe split bet is a two-number bet. Split bets also pay 17-to-1 odds. The chances of winning a split bet is 5.26%. The house edge is also 5.26%. Straight Up Bet - Single Number BetThe straight up bet is a single, straightforward bet on a single number. It doesn't get any more straightforward than this in roulette. The straight up bet or straight bet pays 35-to-1 odds. The probability of winning when betting on any one number is 2.63%, so you can expect (on average) to sit through nearly 35 spins to win a spin one a straight up bet. The house edge on a straight up bet is 5.26%. Roulette DealerThe roulette dealer keeps the roulette wheel spinning at all times, even between spins. The dealer will mark the winning number with a dealer marker after the spin. The bets will then be paid or raked by the house. When the roulette dealer removes the marker, you can bet on the next spin. Do not place a bet while the dealer's marker is still on the roulette table. When the dealer spins the ball, he spins in a direction opposite to the spinning of the roulette. This means the ball will pop up and bounce around when it starts to lose velocity, further randomizing the ball's eventual placement on the roulette wheel. The roulette dealer will also call out when wagers are no longer allowed. Keep this in mind when betting. |
