Roulette Strategy
Even Albert Einstein doubted the ability of players to beat the house. In a quote attributed to the legendary thinker and scientist, he reportedly said, “You cannot beat a roulette table unless you steal money from it.” Below, we’ll take a look at some of the ingenious strategies (both legal and otherwise) employed by roulette fans around the globe. Just remember, roulette is ultimately a game of chance. Thinking otherwise will probably only serve to lighten your wallet. Betting on Red StrategySince there are 18 red spaces on a roulette wheel, the probability of the ball landing on one of these spaces is 47.37% (on an American roulette table). According to mathematical calculations, this gives a 99% chance that the ball will land on red at least 10 times over the course of 38 spins. There’s also a 50% chance that it will land on red at least 18 times. Of course, betting on red is an even money wager (1:1), so it would have to land there 19 times out of 38 spins. The chances of it doing so are only 37%. As you can see, the house (as always) has an edge over the player. The Martingale StrategyWith the Martingale Strategy, the player doubles their bet after every loss. This is designed to help players recover any previous losses. Unfortunately, the most likely outcome is a long-term loss at the roulette table. House Numbers StrategySome players believe that the green numbers (zero and double zero) are the “house numbers.” By betting only on these numbers, some believe that the player will gain the house edge. Unfortunately, this is not the case. While the house does derive an edge from the existence of these numbers, they are not any more likely to come up than other numbers on the roulette wheel. Betting the WheelOver the years, many different roulette strategies have been developed which center on the actual wheel. In some cases, this was as simple as finding a rigged wheel and betting opposite the other players. In other cases, computer programs have been used to predict the spinning of the wheel. The casinos are aware of all of these methods, however. They constantly rebalance their wheels and make every effort to ensure the spins are as random as possible. Whenever a new strategy is developed, the casinos finds a counter as soon as possible. The 1st and 3rd Column StrategyIn this system, players wager two pieces on the first column and two pieces on the third column to cover most of the red numbers on the layout. Two more pieces are wagered on black for insurance in case a black number should come up. In the end, most of the numbers on the table will be covered. It has been said that this strategy will allow a player to break even in the long term. Of course, the strategy must be constantly adhered to in order to be effective. The Labouchere SystemLike the Martingale, this system follows a progression betting strategy. In this case, the player uses a series of numbers in a line to determine their next bet. These numbers are added at the front or back depending on whether the previous spin was a win or loss. There is no proof, however, that this system will allow a player to be a consistent winner. |
