Googling "tips for roulette" reveals a whole lot of roulette advice from a whole lot of so-called gambling experts. Unfortunately, most of this advice isn't meant to help you win at roulette. Instead, these packaged roulette tips are meant to sell you hope and take your money.

Roulette has a large house edge and there are no tips for roulette that turn that house edge into a roulette player's edge. There are certain roulette tips for finding the best roulette odds in the casino and balancing the odds out more. I'll start with the best way to half the roulette odds against you.

Look For the 00 - European Roulette

Not all roulette wheels have the "00" platform on the wheel. All roulette wheels have the numbers "1" through "36" and the "0" platform. Those roulette wheels that have the "00" slot are called American roulette wheels. Those that do not have the "00" are called European roulette or French roulette wheels.

Play Atlantic City Rules - En Prison

Atlantic City allows special rules when you play American roulette. This is called European imprisonment rules, or "en prison". The en prison rule happens when a player makes an "even money" bet in roulette. Examples of even money bets include betting even, odd, black, red, 1 through 18 or 19 through 36.

When you make one of the aforementioned bets and the roulette ball lands on either "0" or "00", you only lose half of your bet. This rule mitigates somewhat the disadvantage of playing American roulette. Keep in mind this rule is not in effect on a single-zero roulette wheel.

Pad Your Comp Time - Full Roulette Tables

Comps are perks and rebates given to players who match certain minimum gambling requirements at a casino. If you play 3 hours at a craps table, the casino might offer you a "comp". Casino comps might include a free hotel room, free meals, free drinks or even money back.

As stated before, roulette has a high house edge compared to many casino games. Playing a long time at a roulette table might be costly to you. So if you want to stretch your time at a roulette table, find a table full of players.

Having more players means the croupier will spend more time paying bets or raking bets. This limits the number of spins per hour where you risk your money. There is a definite house edge in roulette. The casino has the advantage, no matter how you bet. There is no "betting pattern" that increases your odds of winning at roulette. There definitely isn't a betting pattern that's going to eliminate the house edge and give you an edge against the casino. If someone tells you they have a "roulette system" that assures you'll win, that person is lying to you.

Roulette is Entertainment

Ultimately, you should view roulette as a form of entertainment you enjoy, a game which you'll pay good money to enjoy. Don't consider roulette some kind of money-making scheme. Casino gambling is a hobby we enjoy, but nothing is going to assure you walk away from the roulette table with more chips than you started the game with.

If you go to watch a movie, a concert or a sporting event, you pay to enjoy that entertainment. View roulette gambling in the same terms. The casino has a house edge, so most of the time, you're going to pay for the experience. The great thing about casino gambling is that -- unlike movies, concerts and sports events -- you'll sometimes walk out of the casino with more money than you had.
